5 Vegan/Vegetarian Must-Trys in Port Townsend

Port Townsend has so many delicious food offerings. We are so lucky with our proximity to farmers, foragers, and artisans that we have an eclectic and wonderful mix of restaurants, cafes, and pop-ups that offer dishes for every diet. We’ve written about vegan/vegetarian restaurants in the past, but here are some old favorites and new places to try out!

Phosphene

Phosphene is a plant-based cafe that also hosts musicians, events, and is a book and magazine shop. It’s the perfect spot to grab lunch with smoothie bowls, salads, chilled soups, and toasts - including olive tapenade toast, cucumber cilantro chilled soup, and acai berry bowls. Prosphene also offers Fiddlehead’s vegan ice cream, coffee, and loose leaf tea. 

Phosphene is located downtown on Water Street, Phosphene is open Wednesday - Sunday from 11:00am - 5:00pm.

Howell’s Sandwich Co.

Howell’s Sandwich Co. has numerous and delicious vegetarian and vegan sandwiches, salads, and sides. The sandwich shop also has a great deck that provides beautiful views of Puget Sound! Enjoy sandwiches vegetarian sandwiches like the Farmer Ed with apple, sweet onion, purple carrot, lettuce goat cheese, and more or the Capo Caprese with fresh mozzarella, tomato, onion, basil, and balsamic vinaigrette. All sandwiches can be made into wraps or salads. 

Howell’s is open Tuesday - Saturday from 11:00am - 6:00pm (food service ends at 5:45) and Sunday from 11:00am - 5:00pm (food service ends at 4:45).

Tommyknocker's Cornish Pasty

Tommyknocker’s, one of Port Townsend’s newest restaurants, offers a delicious vegan shepherd's pie with a homemade “ground beef” made out of (cauliflower, walnuts, mushroom) onions, carrots, green peas, mashed potatoes, and vegan gravy. They also offer vegetarian stuffed portobello mushrooms, Washington apple salad, hummus, and a mac & cheese made with local Mt. Townsend cheese. Tommyknockers prides themselves on using fresh produce from our local farms and farmers.

Khu Larb Thai

If you’re looking for a delicious dinner with numerous vegan and vegetarian options, look no further than Khu Larb Thai. They have starters, soups, curries, fried rice, noodle dishes, and more that can meet any diet. Savor garlic green beans, coconut soup, green, red, and yellow curries, phad thai and noodle soups. The restaurant is owned and operated by a family who came to Port Townsend from Bankok and Chiang Mai, Thailand and the flavors of the dishes are inspired by Chinese, Malaysian and Indian influences. 

Khu Larb Thai is open Sunday - Thursday from 11:00am - 9:00pm and Friday and Saturday from 11:00am - 10:00pm.

Fiddlehead Creamery

Fiddlehead Creamery makes the most delicious vegan ice cream you will ever taste! Using coconut cream as the base, it is rich and creamy. Fiddlehead has a mix of traditional and creative flavors like chocolate and mint chocolate chip but also roasted banana, lavender blueberry swirl, and coconut horchata!

You can find Fiddlehead Creamery in scoops at Prosophone, Finnriver & Port Townsend Farmers Market (weekends through October) and in pints at the Port Townsend Co-op and Chimacum Corner Store.
